Kirk was an internationally recognized floral designer, commentator, educator, writer, and consultant with over 30 years of experience in floral artistry. He worked in every facet of the floral industry at one time, including owning his own prominent retail flower shop, and has inspired countless people with his creative design work and technical precision. He was an industry leader in floral education.
During his career, Kirk was awarded many accolades and trophies for his designs and his service, one of the most distinctive being the Tommy Bright Award in 2006 presented by Professional Floral Communicators International, a division of the Society of American Florists. In 2005 he was presented with his most prestigious honor, the AIFD Award of Distinguished Service to the Floral Industry. He was also an active member of PFCI.
Kirk was a contributing author for the Centennial History of the American Florist, and The AIFD Book of Floral Terminology, and played a lead role in writing the AIFD Guide to Floral Design: Terms, Techniques and Traditions, published in 2005.
An educational scholarship has been created in Kirk's name, administered by the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD) Foundation. The Kirk Pamper Scholarship Fund will be maintained in perpetuity. You may pledge your support with a personal donation by clicking on the AIFD logo.
In his free time, Kirk collected and maintained a large collection of rare and unusual tropical plants as a hobby, his favorite being Sansiveria, or "Mother-in-Law's Tongue". His collection is currently being housed at the Memphis Botanical Garden in Tennessee, a public garden with 96 acres of sweeping vistas, encompassing lakes and woodlands, display gardens and the renowned Japanese Garden of tranquility and Sensory Garden. Chordoma is a slow growing, relentless bone cancer that occurs in the head and spine in people of all ages. Kirk was first diagnosed with chordoma in 1996. The Chordoma Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of chordoma patients by facilitating the development of improved treatments and ultimately a cure. Cherished son, brother, uncle, partner and companion, Kirk is survived by his parents George and Phyllis, brother Keith, sisters Kristyn and Kimberly and many, many more precious family and friends around the world. The gifts he shared so generously will live on in all those who knew him.
